Moving to a new residence is never easy. No matter how much planning you do in advance, there seems to be details that fall through the cracks. The day of a move usually starts early and is quite hectic. The moving experts at Cowboy Moving & Storage in Denver put together this list of items for a Moving Day Essentials Box that can help your move go a lot more smoothly.
1. Toiletries Are Important: Be sure to put a few rolls of toilet paper, a dish towel, dish soap and paper towels in your box. Pack the items that can help you feel settled and sleep easier on your first night, like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner, combs, towels, brushes and hair dryer—and don’t forget mouthguards!
2. Be Sure To Include Your Medications: Take at least a week’s worth of prescription medication with you. In addition, put some Band Aids, aspirin and Neosporin in your box, just in case.
3. Don’t Forget Beverages And Snacks: You’ll need all the energy you’ve got for your move, so make sure you have plenty of snacks like granola bars, protein bars, trail mix and dried fruit on hand. You might want to have sandwiches ready for lunch as well as plates and plastic cutlery. You can also order pizza or sandwiches for delivery and if you do, treat your movers. They’ll appreciate it and work harder for you. Have bottled water on hand as well as energy drinks so you don’t get dehydrated. If you’re moving during winter months, you might consider having hot cocoa or coffee for you and your movers.
4. Pack A Change Of Clothes: Pack a change of clothes (or two!) for every member of your family. Don’t forget pajamas and shoes! If you’re moving during inclement weather, make sure you have rain or cold weather gear as well.
5. Take Important Records With You: These include passports, birth certificates, records and documents with sensitive information. These could include leasing agreements, mortgage information and medical records.
6. Don’t Forget About Your Pets! Take your pet food, medications, pet toys, health records, leashes and pet beds with you.
7. Pack Personal Electronics, Too: You’ll want to take your laptops, mobile phones, iPads and other personal devices—and don’t forget your power cords.
Choose A Reputable Mover
The most important thing to remember about moving is choosing an experienced, trustworthy moving company. There are lots of fly-by-night moving companies out there who will take advantage of you. Choose a mover with a great reputation and high marks on review sites like ReviewBuzz. Make sure they have a brick-and-mortar headquarters and not just a P.O. Box. You should never make payments in advance for your move. Get an estimate from three different moving companies—and if you get an estimate that’s much lower than the rest, beware! Some companies will low-ball your estimate and then try to tack on extra charges.
Make sure you get an estimate from Cowboy Moving & Storage for your move. We’ve been helping Coloradans with their residential and commercial moving needs since 1968 and would love to help you, too.
