Never Pack These When You’re Moving

Are you getting ready to move to a new home in Colorado? If so, it’s important to know that professional movers have restrictions on moving certain items for legal and safety reasons. These include perishables, some valuables and hazardous materials. Here’s a list of items you probably can’t move in your moving van from the moving experts at Cowboy Moving & Storage.

Don’t Move Hazardous Items

These include things like paints and paint thinners, aerosol cans, fireworks, matches, propane tanks, lighter fluid, gasoline and motor oil.

Leave Toxic Chemicals Behind

Don’t pack pesticides, fertilizers, pool chemical, bleach or ammonia as movers can’t transport these.

Don’t Pack Perishable Items

Any food that can spoil can’t be transported. This includes fresh produce, frozen food, open containers of food and refrigerated foods. In addition, moving companies can’t move plants, especially on long trips as they will die in transit. They can also be subject to state agricultural regulations.

You Can’t Pack Firearms And Ammunition

Most movers will not transport firearms or ammunition due to state and legal concerns. If in doubt, ask your moving company about this. You also can’t move explosives.

You Can’t Take Some Alcohol, Either

Movers can’t transport any open bottles of alcohol. Many moving companies can’t move large collections of wine or a large amount of liquor, even if unopened. You’ll probably have to use a special moving service for these.

Some Medical Supplies Can’t Be Moved

Oxygen tanks and flammable medical supplies like anesthetic gases, can’t be moved by moving companies.

Other Items You Can’t Pack

Car parts like gas tanks, engines or anything containing oil, fuel or other hazardous fluids shouldn’t be packed. Movers can also refuse to take a sealed box or container if they don’t know what’s inside. In addition, personal electronics with hazardous batteries can be restricted.
